If you click on the image then it will enlarge. Originally this came from a photo, I think it might have been St. Thomas? I'm not sure. But I was playing around with markers and sought to try to reproduce the photo on this white page. This was made in either 1999 or 2000.
This is the cello. I think the idea at the time was to manipulate the shape of a cello and infuse it what what a human posture would be. A cello playing it-self, holding the bow across the strings. It was difficult to get a good picture because it was done with pencil.
The idea with this trumpet came when I was thinking of jazz trumpeters and the FIRE they create through the music they make on their horn. I imagined what the sound would look like if you could see it come out of the bell.
